I tried to play with knot tension but it always ends up looking rectangular than square, to the overall design is stretched out. No matter how tight I make the knots, it is rectangular and loosening it only makes extremely loose knots

@Will0Wrist Have you tried pushing the knots into place? When I finish a knot that looks funny, I'll take my fingernail and try to push it into place directly below the knot I want above it. Sometimes this helps the knot take the right shape.I hope that helps! |

even some of the most advanced knotters have this same “issue” (look at @clairehair and her photos ) it really is just the nature of how friendship bracelet knots are made..:

And remember you don’t have to make the knots themselves super tight! The first half of the knot is key in making the entire knot look more square. As long as that part is close to the knots above it and firmly (but not “tightly”) secured, the second half of the knot should fall into place and make it look less stretched out!

When you tie the knots, tie them close to the bracelet that way your knots are much cleaner

Knots aren't perfectly square so alpha patterns come out slightly rectangular looking, unfortunately. this is super common!

#26588 This pattern is square (29x29) but all the photos are a bit rectangular, even the really well made ones. Sorry I couldn't find any better examples to show this!

@knottahti I think that Claire’s angled knots are more to do with the flat alpha technique really 🤔 because in sticking the string through the middle of the knot you’re only really going to be able to see the single top string in the knot instead of both halves together. 🤷🏻♀️ Slanted or long knots though aren’t an uncommon complaint in the forums. I don’t notice it much in my own but I tie quite tightly which I think maybe compacts my knots more? 🤔 idk

@Margaron maybe that’s it? I use the flat alpha technique as well. My knots are also slanted.

@Margaron i agree, it seems like the flat alpha technique does result in more of a slant/elongated knot! it really depends on preference i guess! i don’t mind the slight elongation anymore, i guess i’ve just gotten used to it haha 😂
