I made a forum question yesterday but I have another question different from it. When making alphas, my knots are more rectangle than square-like, as in they look like vertical rectangles. I see pictures of other people’s (who are more skilled than me lol) bracelets and their knots are basically square. Would this mean that I should make my knots tighter in order to achieve a more square knot? Or is there a specific technique for this? I am trying to practice more and I understand if this is simply a skill I have to learn with more experience 🙂

make sure to make your first half of the knot extra tight

Just keep practising! It may be a matter of tying tighter but ultimately little things like that are generally just down to practice! 😄

The first half of the knot needs to be as close to the knots above it as possible. You don’t have to make it super tight, but keeping it close to the others will make the knot turn out square with no open spaces and keeping it looser will make the knot look fuller too

Like the people above me said, the first half of the knot is important for preventing gaps, but it’s actually the second half that determines how long your knots are. So making sure you’re tying the second half of the knot really tight should help

does this happen when you make normal patterns too? the reason I am asking is because the fact that you are making an alpha bracelet shouldnt change the way the knot looks. yes, the knotting process is much different when making alphas and the way the knots fit together is very different, but that shouldnt affect the knots themselves. your knots could look like this for many reasons, so here are a few tips. the first half of your knot positions the knot, so just make sure that it is in the place that you want it (it doesnt necessarily have to be tight). the second half of the knot is the part you can see, so just make sure that you pull enough to get it to how it needs to look (again, it doesnt need to be tight). hope this helps

@caraxo___ @Margaron @annadf @madeleine_ How to fix when the rectangle is angled to one side?

Alpha knots will always be somewhat slanted, just because of how they sit on your base strings. Keeping them all uniform and equal will make the pattern look right, though. If you think your knots are too slanted you can always position them with your finger to make them look straighter. @ariane111

The knots are supposed to be a little slanted, but if they’re extremely slanted then you might be tying your knots a little too tight. Unfortunately you kind of have to find a balance with knot tightness😂
