I found the tutorial section REALLY helpful when I started doing alphas. Definitely take a look at the tutorial for Multi-Colored Alpha Patterns. It helped me SO much! In fact, I recommend using the knotter-color substitution method for all of your alpha patterns. If that doesn't make sense now, it will make a little more sense after looking at the tutorials. I think that method makes your alpha patterns looks really straight and uniform. It's actually really easy once you get used to doing it. There's a lot of good video tutorials on youtube too. I hope some of that helps. Feel free to send me messages if you have any questions!

Have a go at some smaller alpha patterns before attempting the multi-color patters. It helps to know how to do a normal Alpha before attempting the multi-color ones. Also for multi-color alpha's you need to understand string substitution so your first multi-color should be a ting one

Sorry. Thin one (believe me, I went for a name pattern as my first one and that did NOT go well).

And like SBilbrey the tutorial section helps a lot, there are also lots of videos on youtube and there are lots of other sites that have Alpha tutorials.
