I know that when using the straight edges technique you do backward-forward knots on the left and forward-backward knots on the right, but do you get the same effect when you do the opposite? (forward-backward on the left and backward-forward on the right)

doing the opposite gives the edges a “scalloped” or “lacey” effect, because they’re are free string on the edges every time. if you find a bordered normal pattern you will see this in the photos. but it does keep things pretty straight!

@knottahti I was asking this because I wanted to add a border to a normal pattern. Would it be worth it to add two strings to each side, or should I only add one and give it a scalloped effect?
