For alpha bracelets you don't need to add an extra string for the straight edges technique. You make two bf knots on the string on the left edge instead of a b and a f knot and two fb knots on the string on the right edge instead of a f and a b knot.

Doing an alpha with the straight edge technique you won't have to add extra string, this is only for normal patterns. When doing it for alphas you do two bf knots on the left most string and two fb knots on the right most string.

It doesn't matter that it switches between black and yellow, the straight edge technique for alphas you will always do two bf knots on the left most string and two fb knots on the right most string! Hope this helps! 😊
