Is it possible to do backward knots on the background string like a 2 colored alpha and then when you get to a new color you add one in like you would a multicolor alpha?

Whenever I'm tying an alpha, even if it's just two colors, I always use the knotter-string-substitution method. I never tie any knots with my base/background strings. I saves A LOT of string that way, because you can use any color you want for your base strings. It doesn't matter what color your base strings are, because they'll never be seen. It also keeps all of your knots going in the same direction. So your bracelet will look much neater and more uniform. I hope that helps!
