I am assuming you are doing alpha. Basically, you just add in extra thread just like you would when you need a new color. Some people like to knot with the full skien instead of unraveling it, that's something you could try so you don't run out of thread.

If you're doing a normal pattern you can add the new string the same way you'd add a new colour in an alpha. You fold back the old string, put a new string in its place and continue knotting with it like it was the old string. Here's a video https://youtu.be/vJopcAcJqiA |

I usually just make a knot onto the strand that’s running out with a new strand, yes it makes a knot but then i put it on the back of the bracelet.

With alphas it's super easy to replace a string, it's the same way you would add in strings you need, I suggest making the string you're going to use a lot, such as a background color, very long or just not cutting it at all so you don't have to replace it, it's easier that way. If its for a normal pattern, it's basically the same thing as with an alpha but it may be a little more visible on the back of the bracelet, that's why I always cut my string longer than I may think I need because that way I don't run out. If it's the base strings of an alpha, I'm not really sure how you would replace those but I'm assuming someone has a video on how to do it.
