Untying knots without damaging the strings

Hello! I was wondering if anybody had any advice about untying knots. I untie my knots with a safety pin, and I find that after I untie them, the string gets really damaged, so when I go to continue knotting the bracelet, the string is so worn down from being untied, that it snaps. If anyone has any advice or knows what I am doing wrong, any help is appreciated. Thank you!

be gentle with your string after you take it out

I turn the bracelet around because at the back of the knots you can see better how the string moves. I use my finger nails to push the second half of the knot down until it gets loose.

I like to use a yarn needle to undo my knots because the tip is much more blunt and doesn’t damage the strings. 🙂

I use a seam ripper, like a yarn needle it has a soft tip and edge, so it doesn't damage strings.
