Typically, the length of your wrist with an extra few inches for ties and then just a little extra just to be safe. If you are folding the strings (if you are doing a loop) you'll need to double that. If the pattern is long (more than 90 rows or so), you'll need to add on from the length you measured for your wrist.If you are making a keychain or pin brooch, they can be even shorter than this. |

For my i make my base sting as long as the patten is to fit my wrist and then I had as long as I think for my ties

If you don’t want to make a bracelet I measure how long I want the actual pattern to be, and I add extra sting on both sides to make the ties for the base strings
