Hello guys!

Last year I opened a topic about the same bracelet with the same problem.
The tipps were e.g. to knot it in chevrons so that the bracelet won't turn out so wavy.
One year and about 100 bracelets later I am trying it again - with original DMC cotton thread.
I tie my knots not too tight, even knot it in chevrons BUT the bracelet still turns out wavy.
Really, I am doing all I can - I take a close look with knots to tie tighter or loser at the edge.
The left edge is better now, but the right edge isn't.
Empatheo himself also knotted it in chevrons with the same thread an his turned out absolutely straight.
WHY???

I always have the problem with patterns like these. My edges are not perfect although I don't tie my knots too tight. Not loose, not tight, I would say compact, but really not tight.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong...

Usually I would say it's the pattern itself. But I saw with my own eyes that Empatheo's bracelet is straight...

This is another example where I don't get a straight bracelet. 😭

No, not with these patterns. The "original knotters" also didn't use it.
I know how to do it, I use it in arrowheads and some other patterns. It helps. A bit.

In our own bracelets we always notice the waviness more. Others won't notice it. I wouldn't have noticed, if you didn't say it was wavy.

I think this pattern indeed as a tendency to wave, because it is a zig zag pattern.

Here are some things you can try:

- secure your bracelet well in a way that it can't move around a lot while tying
- move the point where you secure the bracelet down as the bracelet gets longer

- try not to pull your f knots too much to the right and your b knots too much to the left

(What helps me achieve this is holding the string going to the left in my left hand and the string going to the right in my right hand)

- if segment-knotting fails you, try row by row

- you could block the bracelet afterwards similar to what you would do to crochet or knitting

And lastly
- don't compare yourself with empatheo, he's tying so so much and such big projects, of course he is good at what he does.

haha your last sentence...I am a perfectionist, I also want to make it perfect. And after 100 bracelets I still get wavy ones. At the beginning I made some "mistakes" I don't make anymore. But with this sort of pattern I always have problems. Also in arrowheads where the outermost string goes the way like the blue one in this bracelet. Then I usually use the straight edge technique, but not always.
And yes, I secure my bracelets. And I don't pull in a direction, just hold the string and pull it down, not left or right (there was I time when I did this though).
This is why I have no idea how to make THIS right.
Knotting row by row would be something to try, but to switch this in the middle of the bracelet? Masha made a video comparing these two methods and the bracelets (knot length also) turned out differently, segment knotting was better. I knot this pattern in chevrons, not in segments, but it doesn't help.

I got to watch Masha's video. It surprises me a bit that knotting row by row vs segment knotting affects knot size. It shouldn't in my opinion. If it does, it is due to how used you are to either technique. If you perfect both of them, knots should be the same.

Can you try out the one hint I gave about holding the string going to the left in the left and the string going to the right in the right? This should ensure that the knot really is centered under the two knots on top of it. Waviness comes from the knots not being centered.

Ok ok

Not completely through watching the video.

The looser knots in the row by row bracelet are probably coming from her not being used to it (she said she didn't do row by row in ten years). I think with practice (or just by paying attention to it) you can make the knots just as tight.

I noticed that she secured the bracelet in a way so that it can move around a lot. I'm not sure, if she did that for the whole bracelet.

If you look at the two bracelets in comparison, you can actually see that the segment knotting one does have a slight waviness at the edges, while the row by row one doesn't (or just very very minimal waviness).

I know now what was my problem with THIS pattern. In row 16 there are fb knots and this is the row that makes the wave. Today I got the idea to knot these fb knots very very tightly and the wave is almost gone! 😤 With f or b knots I did not recognize such a thing, but I hate fb/bf knots and it seems that they are a little looser and need more space.

No, I did not try to take a string in the other handy, bc I do all my knots with the right hand. I have no idea how to do it otherwise, not with my fingers 🙈 😂

Still not perfect, but row 16 now is straight. Not it's the green triangle that is a bit smaller.
The fourth part of the pattern here is the best one.

I'm glad you figured something out, yey 😄

I'm also not good at tying with my other hand, but I discovered a 'hack':

Let's take the b knot as an example.

I hold the right string in my left and the left string in my right.
Instead of moving the right string OVER and around the left string with my left hand, I move the left string UNDER and around the right string (like the first half of an upside-down f knot) with my right hand.
Don't pull it tight, instead 'flip' the knot by pulling on the string you moved under and around. Then pull the knot tight.
Repeat the same step for the second half of the knot.

Oh, I need to try this. But it seems a bit complicated. 🙈
I never made upside down knots because it's too complicated 😭 🙈 😂

It's not complicated at all. Instead of moving the "leading" string over the "base" string and then through the hole, you move it under and then through the hole.

It's easier to move it over so the hands are not in each other's way.
In German we say "I have two left hands"... 🙈 😂 😂 😂
