Weird Method of Segment Knotting

I’ve found that instead of segment knotting like regular I usually cut the pattern in half and do as much as I can before connecting the middle strings. I was wondering if this was unusual or just a different way of doing it because I typically don’t knot in diagonals when I segment knot.

Segment-knotting is knotting in diagonals as much as possible. That does not mean you knot only in big diagonals going from one side to the other like you would for a candystripe, but that you split the pattern into smaller diagonals (segments) that can be tied in one go one after the other. The segments are different from pattern to pattern. What you describe might be what is suitable for a symmetrical pattern like the chevron. In a chevron you tie from one side until the centre, then from the other side to the centre and in the end you make the connecting knot between the two centre strings. Can you give an example of a pattern and how you tie it? |

@halokiwi on my pattern #186068 I knot the first row and then do the next 3-5 knots on each before I connect the purple strings in the middle. It’s not really in diagonals 🤷

So all the knots of row 1, all the knots of row 2, row 3 except the middle knot, first and last knot of row 4, first and last knot of row 5? After that you do the middle knot of row 3?I think I would tie it something like this https://imgur.com/a/T8FhVmk But there are so many different ways to work one pattern |

I mostly prefer working towards a point for symmetrical patterns so that they form a v-shape.Working in an upside down v-shape for me personally would have the disadvantage that I might end up pulling the sides too much to the side, so it will be harder to connect the sides in the end. |

@halokiwi it ended up working fine for me, I guess it’s just personal preference
