Bracelets turning around

Hello guys,I heard that with candy stripes it can happen that the bracelets turn around or curl from the outside to the middle (don't know how to describe it). I had the problem with #22320, but not with #167789. In both patterns there are ff/bb-knots. In the second one there are more ff than bb in one row so this probably is why I had no problem. Now I am making #3415 and I have the problem again. In each row there alternate ff/bb-knots. Once I made a bracelet of Empatheo (pattern not on BB), it was a 12 string bracelet with the same pattern (ff/bb/ff/bb) and I did NOT have the problem. Is there anything I can do about it? Does it help to glue some fabric onto the backside? Thank you! |

knotting looser may help. I think it really has to do with your bracelet being pulled in the same direction throughout the entire bracelet. so if your whole bracelet is forward knots, your entire bracelet would be pulled to the right making it curl up. I have only had that happen with candystripes and not chevrons or other normal patterns with various knots or normal patterns with straight edge technique because they are being pulled in various directions. I also knot very tightly and notice I have begun to knot tighter over time. my newer bracelets curl more because they are tighter.

I don't tie my knots too tight when they all go into the same direction. I pull tight when I have to hold together a ^ shape. What I don't understand - there are knots into different directions - alternating ff and bb knots. Only with these the bracelets are turning around. When I have 3 ff knots, 2 bb knots, 4 ff knots, etc - nothing happens, everything is fine. |

When you say ff and bb knots, do you mean regular forward knots and backwards knots? The first pattern you mentioned #22320 has two alternating rows: one consisting of ff (?) knots and one consisting of fb knots. Some people struggle with fb and bf knots. Have you ever made that experience when tying patterns consisting only or mainly of fb and bf knots? Maybe you also use a different tension for ff knots than you use for fb knots. Are you knotting in diagonals or in horizontal rows? Sorry, I forgot, if you ever told me. Simple plaid patterns like #3415 can benefit highly from knotting in horizontal rows instead. When you knot in diagonals you always have a tendency to pull in one direction, even when knots alternate. |

You may be right that the knotting direction (diagonal rows) may be the problem. I never knotted in horizontal rows except the beginning of a normal pattern keychain.I saw my first mentioned plaid pattern with perfectly horizontal dots, so maybe it really was knotted in horizontal rows. My rows are a bit out of order. It's a lot easier and faster to knot though. |
