@BabyWren12 I use that cheap cotton yarn cause i can't bring my self to use 2 euros worth of DMC thread for something hidden haha. I am convinced there's better options though, and I recently got some super cheap embroidery floss and it's kinda ugly so i might use it as base strings 🙂 I'm still definitely in my experimenting phase for alphas

@BabyWren12 - for my base strings, I like Lily Sugar N' Cream, and Lion Brand Re-Up

@Arrkengheis - I finished a larger project using only yarn! See #174948 - it is 24cm x 44cm (not including the dowel and fringe)

@emiliecw oh yeah that looks great ! I like that it makes wall hanging so much bigger. I have a big pattern I want to make but I think I'll be too limited color wise if I use yarn :/

@Arkengheis - what pattern do you want to make? And do you prefer cotton or acrylic? I feel like it's possible to do something complex all in the same size - although it would certainly be more expensive than buying a value pack, and the colors may not be exact (although that does allow you some creative license).

@emiliecw I want to make #162197. The colors are pretty muted and most of the yarn I have is very saturated. I haven't tried acrylic but I like the idea of cotton more. Maybe I'll see if I can make my colors work 🙂

@Arkengheis - I think that is totally doable in a worsted weight cotton. I actually have all those colors in my collection of Lily Sugar N' Cream and various similar cottons in different brands. One thing to keep in mind is that these projects take a LOT of yarn. I was surprised that, in the owl one I posted, I used about 500 meters of the tan color (which I also used for the base strings)!

@Arkengheis - also, that pattern is so beautiful. I would love to see it if you make it!

@emiliecw wow that's a lot of yarn 😲 you inspired me to actually start working on this pattern, I'm trying to dye some of my yarn to make a better gradient. The pattern is super pretty indeed, it deserves good colors ^^
