I’ve been having trouble starting this pattern, especially because I’m trying to use segment knotting. The colors aren’t evenly distributed so the strings keep ending up in the wrong place. And I know the extra two strings are supposed to go in the back, but what about when segment knotting? What do you do with them then? This technique is so complicated 😭

I would recommend not doing a loop in #45507. Then you don't have issues with the strings not being distributed evenly. For the straight edges technique, you keep one extra string on the left edge and make bf knots onto it and one extra string on the right edge and make fb knots onto it. To make segment knotting easier, I recommend taking a screenshot of the pattern and drawing the segments into it. When segment knotting the fb and bf knots for the straight edges technique need to be the first or the last knot of the segment they are adjacent too. If you can't get the hang of segment knotting, you can also knot row by row instead, either for the complete bracelet or until you get the hang of segment knotting. |

Thanks! How do you know when and when not to do a loop? And for the second row, two strings are to the side instead of one right?

In general you can always do a loop, but if there is an odd amount of one colour or an odd amount of strings in general, you need to use a special technique. The same applies to when the colours are not evenly distributed on both sides. MashaKnots has a good video on making loops with odd amounts of strings in which she explains this.I don't really understand your second question. |

I'll take a look! And so for the second row since I have to knot 3 instead of 4, do I leave the straight edge strings plus one string to the side?

No, in the second row you have to do 5 knots instead of 3.Row one is done normally but you leave the straight edge strings out. In row two you make a bf knot onto the left straight edge string with the string on the left edge that would have been unused and you make a fb knot onto the right straight edge string with the string on the right edge that would have been unused. |
