I've done normal patterns before that have looked fine but when i did an alpha one for the first time it looked weird so i ended up having to switch the way i did my knots. now im doing a normal pattern again and doing the knots the way i learned for alphas and the front side looks way different from the back. the front looks normal but the back looks very blocky and idk what to do

That's the normal way knots look in both normals and alphas. You probably did something wrong before.
