Please help! How do I know how long to make certain strings?

I'm doing pattern 172726 and some strings don't have as many knots like strings C and D. Should I make them shorter? Or do you have any tips so that I can just keep the string on the wind up thingy and cut in when it's done, or is it tricky? Thank you!

Strings with less knots need less strings but it is always good to be cautious so you donโt run out. Keeping strings on your bobbins is good for preventing this, just be aware that you canโt do a loop and can only do ties
