short base strings

I am 1/4 of the way through a wall hanging and this is my first one and I feel like maybe I cut my base strings too short not 100% on it but by looking I think I am. So if they are is there a way to add more string? I thought maybe I could try and tie a new string to them but worried it wouldn’t work and I would end up with bulky spots where the tied part is. Any help? Or links to videos I can watch. Thanks
