Cut it a bit shorter, then after you fold the other strings in half, measure the string so the

*that it’s the length of the strings halved plus a couple inches more. Tie over both the strings as if they were one, then after about 4-5 rows, you can cut off the tiny string and continue as normal.

You can do as ningc98 suggested, or you can use the leading string and tie it on there like a base string and just knot onto it like normal

You can also follow clairehair's tutorial Shaped Starts and Ends for Odd Stringed Alphas or PotatoPeel's tutorial The Lark's Head Knot

You can also cut 10 strings, and then fold them in half, make larks head knots so you have 20 base strings, and hide one on the back, so you don't knot over it. Once you've made a couple of rows into your wallhanging, you can cut the strings that remained on the back, it won't untie itself. 😊

@bonnibands I've always done it similar to almallama but for the first couple rows ill put two base strings together and knot over it as if it were one after a few rows are finished i cut one of the bunched up strings right to the knot 🔥
