Is it six-stranded embroidery thread? If so, it should be an okay thickness, but you can split it if you want it to be thinner. If it's not six-stranded embroidery thread, don't try to split it, as it will damage the integrity of the thread, and cause it to tear.

The two threads commonly used for friendship bracelets is embroidery floss, which is 6 stranded thread, and craft thread or pearle cotton, which is thread that is twisted on itself. You can use any string to make bracelets, just make sure they are all the same thickness. Generally, I will only use embroidery floss with other embroidery floss. I would not mix craft thread and embroidery floss.
