I have created a mini hanging of a Jason mask for a gift but think it would look better if it was slightly distressed.. Has anyone ever added pencil or something to a design to give it a messy look? Any tips would be appreciated, thank you!

Never did this, but the first thing I thought of was staining it with coffee to make it look old.

I'm not sure, if damaging the bracelet is a good idea, but just staining it with coffee won't harm its integrity.

I second the coffee staining idea. It works wonderfully. You can also use matte(not shimmery) eyeshadows, crushed into powder, with or without a little bit of water depending on what effect you prefer. Use a test swatch of the thread youre distressing before doing the actual piece. Test the ratios of powder to water, if you need layers, etc. I find that rinsing the stain off of the item I'm distressing and reapplying it a few times really helps make it look more authentic, like base stains from years of accumulation.
