I have no idea if that's possible, but you can always reinsert the string!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xp6CvX3bvo&pp=ygUhYnJva2VuIHN0cmluZyBmcmllbmRzaGlwIGJyYWNlbGV0 |

Personally I also just knot a new string to the old one. This can make it look a little peculiar but honestly it's barely noticeable, and even if, it's generally at the back of the pattern so it won't be as noticeable!

I've been wondering about the same thing. I was reading and old macrame book from the 70s (it was horrible btw) and it mentioned 'splicing' the cords. Basically fraying the ends a little bit, then intertwining one to the other and sealing it with glue. I want to try this on embroidery floss, but haven't had the need yet. The glues I would try are: e6000, Elmer's, tacky glue, and various fabric glues. I think e6000 and the fabric glues would be the best vet.

I recommend the YouTube video "How to replace broken strings" by Alex's Innovations:https://youtu.be/vJopcAcJqiA She explains different methods in it |
