is there even a way to keep strings and threads organized?

the same as I just said. I can't stop messing them up and because of that my work goes too slowly

I use a piece of plastic that has slits cut into it at the bottom that hold my strings and a binder clip at the top for holding the bracelet. People here also use a bracelet board: https://www.amazon.com/Choose-Friendship-Bracelet-Jewelry-Making/dp/B008B7BC8S?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1

It's strong plastic too, like a weird sheet of it my dad got at work. I used cardboard before that (but it got wet and turned mushy and warped lol)

It seems you mostly focus on alpha patterns. If you're having trouble keeping the base strings in order, then you can use a bracelet board or maybe a piece of cardboard with slits in the bottom like Hylia224 said. If you're having trouble keeping the leading strings organized, make sure the colors you're not using are totally out of your way. if you want to make alphas faster, you can also use my super secret technique (not actually secret, and someone else definitely came up with it first). I can explain that if you want, just ask! |

I don't cut my leading strings for alphas until I'm done with that colour. Instead, I have all of my floss on bobbins, so for my leading strings I only unravel enough to knot with and use the slits on the plastic bobbins to help keep the floss from unravelling further.@asterism - I am definitely interested in your technique to make alphas go faster! |

Alright, here's my special technique, i'll try to explain it as clearly as i can (note, while i did discover it on my own, many people have found it long before me, so it isn't truly "mine"). although there is a small chance that it's what you're doing already.Normally when you make a knot in an alpha pattern, you have to pull the leading sting through. Which can be a bit awkward and slow you down. so here's a cool shortcut! Start the knot as normal with the 4 (or backwards 4), but don't reach down through the hole and pull the leading string through as usual. Instead, you reach up through the bottom of the hole and pull the base string through. then you give the base string a little tug so that the knot flips and will be made with the leading string as normal. Since the base string will almost always be much shorter (and not attached to a bobbin), this makes alphas a LOT faster. Feel free to ask me any more questions if you're confused. There's also a tutorial by Samanda that explains this in a slightly different way, so you can check that out as well if you like. https://www.braceletbook.com/tutorials/153_advanced-knots-tutorial/ (you'll have to scroll all the way to the bottom) |

@asterism - That's a great tip - I'll have to give that a try on my next alpha!
