So I have this project in mind, it is a normal pattern 60 strings x approx. 400 rows. The thing is that I need to start it as a triangle with a loop but (and this is the problem) need to end it with a clean straight edge. I need the end to be neat. You can imagine a wide alpha stripe with a triangle start but in a normal pattern. Or any regular normal pattern bracelet with one end being a triangle with a loop and the other cut straight. Hope my explanation is at least a little bit clear.

Or can I start it straight and end it somehow in a loop?

I'd recommend starting with the loop and ending with the straight edge. Doing this should be possible. One way would be to just glue the ends of the basestrings to the back. My recommendation for you is to make a smaller mockup to test, if it will work.
