my sister has been begging me to make her an anklet for her, but not sure what length to make the strings. i don’t want to cut the strings too short, or make them too long and waste some string. Is there a good in the middle length?it’s pattern #117 |

How long would the anklet need to be?How long do you usually make a bracelet? How long do you make the ties? How much string do you use for a bracelet? If you answer this, I might be able to approximate the string length. |

There's this video that you could use to calculate it, its supposed to be really accurate but theres a lot of counting and measuring and calculating.https://youtu.be/M_K2iKeoq-A As an alternative, I'll make some estimations. Honestly I've never made an anklet before (intentionally, but the accidental one was a daisy chain so), but I'm gonna do some potentially flawed math. I cut roughly 165 cm of string for a bracelet with a loop which turns out to be 14.5 cm plus 20cm for the ties. By that logic, you should cut desired length in cm times 10 + desired tie length. Keep in mind if you're not doing a loop you have to leave extra for ties on both sides, and you'd multiply the desired length by 5 instead of 10. By that logic, if you were doing 25cm plus 10 cm ties on either side, you'd do 25*5 +2*10 =145 cm per string. You also need to take into account that that pattern doesn't use all the strings in equal amounts. The top string in each stripe is used for 2 knots more than the bottom one. You could combat this by doing a fb or bf knot midway through the anklet in the place where those 2 strings intersect. By doing that you'll switch them up so in the end all your strings should be used equally. You'd do this for all the colors . Sorry if this is badly explained, I'm on mobile, as in in chrome on an android, so it's a bit hard to organize my thoughts. |

Now I just need 4) in inches but then I should be able to give an answer to youBut the string length for your anklet would need to aprocimately be 4 inches + (string length for a bracelet - 4 inches) x 1,8 An anklet is 1,8 times as long as a bracelet, so you need 1,8 times as much for the anklet part (without the ties). |

@halokiwi I know this is late but thanks for the help! I figured out the rest. 4 + (27 - 4) x 1.8 = 30.2 inches
