So I have been making bracelets non stop the past 2 weeks and my wrists hurt bad whenever I pick up anything or put pressure on them or sometimes even tying knots. And especially because I’m a gymnast I’m obviously on my hands a lot. Thankfully we had 4th of July week off but I have to go today and I don’t know if I’ll be able to do anything without my wrists hurting. Am I the only one that experiences this? If not then can someone please give me some tips?

My right wrist hurts quite a bit, when I'm knotting I wear a brace which has helped a little.

I had a similar thing happen to me with crochet, to the point that I couldn't even wash my hands without those muscles hurting. The only solution is really just to take a break for a few days until the worst of the pain passes. Going forward, I suggest you try doing some wrist exercises before knotting in order to warm your muscles up a bit. Making bracelets uses pretty similar muscles to knit and crochet, so you can just google "crochet/ knitting wrist exercises" and you'll get plenty of options. And of course, take breaks at least every half hour to an hour while knotting.

I would suggest taking a break for a bit, and giving your wrists some time. You could also try using a brace or some athletic tape

Yeah so I’m kind of in my obsessed phase worth making bracelets which mean I cannot go a day without making at least one but I probably will just try athletic tape

I know once you get into the groove and the habit of constantly making bracelets it's addictive but just remember to take a break every thirty minutes or so to not just rest your hands and wrists but also your eyes. For me doing this really helped, as well as slowing down a little bit and taking my time.

When I first started making bracelets, (I've been making bracelets for two years but just started using bracelet book,) I made them really small. It ended up leaving marks on my wrist, and also, probably similar to you, it ended up affecting my wrist. If you think this has anything to do with it, just start making your bracelets longer. BUT, recently, I had to make five bracelets in two days because I was being paid to make them. I had to work really hard, and it took up a lot of my time. I ended up completing the order, but I wound up with another problem: My pointer finger, base of my thumb, and my wrist was cramping up really hard, especially on my dominate hand. It hurt so bad that I started talking with my parents, and they put a sprain on it. It turned out that making the tiny knots was causing my hand to seize up and get really bad cramps! Also, if you ARE making one bracelet a day, that's a lot of work on your fingers and wrist. If you think this is the problem, try making less bracelets. I know it's hard, but after my wrist was hurt, I toned down the bracelet making to a more appropriate level. (3-4 a week was the amount I settled on.) Anyways, I really hope this helped! I hope your wrist feels better, and keep on creating! |

While you make bracelets you should get some compression gloves they help a lot with bracelet making and I use them while crocheting too and I haven’t had much problems since
