I currently use dmc embroidery floss, but I was wondering what everyone else uses for the best results

a lot of people use cheap thread from amazon or aliexpress and those work fine
I've personally used both anchor brand (they cost almost 2 euro a skein in my country) and cheap polyester floss which was 1.06 euro for a 10 pack and I can't say that I preferred one over the other.
most embroidery floss works fine, the only problems I've had are thin pearl cotton (size 8) chafing my fingers and some random cheap sparkly yarn being too fluffy and having a scratchy texture.
I'd say the only time you should be concerned about string brand is if you're making an alpha since different brand strings can produce different size knots and that will make your alpha look wonky.

It honestly doesn't matter, all embroidery floss will produce the same result (other than alphas). A lot of people like the feel and quality of DMC.

@fishyknots it does matter what brand you use whether you make alphas or normals. Thread size and colours can vastly change the end result of your creations. I've made exact bracelets in different materials/brands and noticed differences in size, lenght and colour saturation. Different brands have different colour shades that isn't to say you can't mix and match brands or that your wrong because yes alphas definetely show more differences when you use different brands/materials vs. normals (sorry if that sounds harsh, I just want to make a point)

the only times i’ve ever had a problem with threads is with dollar store threads! i’ve found threads from literally any dollar store or any like cheap homeware or general store tend to be very rough and unravel easily. i use threads from aliexpress that are actually wayyyy cheaper but way better quality! just be careful, as mentioned above if you mix brands you can end up with threads that are slightly different sizes and it can start to affect quality a bit! the only downside i’ve found to aliexpress threads is that sometimes threads that have the same colour code, even if they’re from the same pack, can be slightly different shades, but other than that i’ve never had any issues 🙂

i use dmc because it has the most colors available at my local craft store but whenever i do alphas i use loops and threads embroidery floss for the base strings because even though the feel is a little rougher it’s so much cheaper
