String at the top of bookmarks

So I have a started bookmark and I used the bookmark hole technique. So when you use this technique, you make lark head knots on a string, and then you do the actual hole and then knot as normal. No one really talks about how to make the string hidden. Any suggestions?

You could use that string as the outer base strings. I have not tried this technique yet, so I'm not sure, if this would work or not.

@halokiwi Thanks for replying. I tried this once, but it made the edges wonky. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Maybe you could tie around that string whenever you make a knot onto the base strings at the edge for the first few rows. Then after a few rows, you can just cut the ends of that string and it shouldn't come undone.
