The straight-edges technique mainly affects how the edges look. If you like the look of it, you can apply it to any pattern you are tying. It can help to make the bracelet straighter as a whole, but there are also other ways to reach this goal. The straight edges is also no miracle tool to solve all your issues that you might have with the overall straightness of a bracelet.

Pattern #140639 consists of only fb and bf knots. A pattern like this is unlikely to bend because the knots are very balanced. You don't really "need" the straight edges technique for patterns like these.

Patterns like #1 or #147 are more likely to bend because they have lots of knots going in one direction. In patterns like these the straight edges technique can help to keep the bracelet straighter.
