What do people call the string that makes all the knots? I've been calling it the "color string", but i'm not sure if people know what i'm talking about when i say that. Is there a name for it that is widely used?

The strings that make the knots are called leading strings. The strings onto which you knot are called base strings.

"leading strings"...i haven't heard that term before, but it sounds very official! I'll use it in the future, if i remember to.
