What is the straight edges technique with candy stripe??

I tried making the candy stripe pattern but it curved, so I tried the straight-edge technique and it looked a bit odd, what am i doing wrong?

Could you post a photo of that candystripe? Or maybe describe it some more. I don't think it is possible to say what went wrong or even if something actually went wrong from the information you gave at the moment 🙂
