I am working on pattern 98498 and there a a lot of switches on the edge. I am trying to do the straight edges technique and the flat alpha. I don’t like how it is turning out. Is there a better way to change colors on the edge? Or will it take practice?

i just make sure to only do flat switches on the first side if that makes sense so if you’re switching to a new color it’s way harder than switching from a color back to the main one

I usually just don’t do the flat alpha technique. Basically instead of only doing half the knot (one knot) and then bringing the string across I just leave the string where it is and use the straight edge technique for the edges and ya. It works for me. Haven’t done it in a bit though.
