Colour change on edge WITHOUT 'straight edges' technique?

I prefer to make my alphas without the straight edge technique (which is making forwards-backwards knots on the end of a row etc). I just think it looks nicer, but ive been running into problems when i want to switch to a colour for the first knot of a row. Like if im knotting with colour A and i finish the row, but the next row starts with colour B. Does anyone know how to do this? All the tutorials i found about edge colour switches only cover the straight edge method. Thanks!!!

You could glue the tail of the string to the back so it does not stick out or you could knot around it for the next few rows and then cut it in the end. This way the end of the string should not stick out.

i like to just make my string extra long and tie into the tied at the top, and then not use the flat alpha technique. it sticks out a little but not as much as it would otherwise. i also make sure ti make the knot looser

i prefer to knot without the straight edge technique as well! and had to figure this problem out myself because i also couldn’t find a tutorial on it. are you using the flat alpha technique? if so, i use the flat alpha technique and just change the colour on the edge. then about two or three knots into the next row, put that string A back inside another knot (as if you’re changing to that colour using the flat alpha technique) but then finish the knot with the colour you’re currently using, so then string A is threaded inside that knot. sometimes i even do two knots like this (either next to each other or at another random knot in the same row) just to really secure it, then move string A to the back and continue as normal! if you have no more knots with string A this also allows you to cut it off as normal without it sticking out or coming loose!

sorry for the second message i misspoke before, put string A inside the knot as if you’re changing to that colour on the next knot, but then continue to knot the NEXT knot with the same colour, then move string A to the back. hopefully this makes sense and i didn’t just make it even more confusing 😅 because it works really well!
