I am a beginner bracelet maker. I have tried the cat #90937 - and I counted out 12 base strings, then I somehow ended up with an extra one. I gave up and am trying again. I have 12 strings, but when I actually count the graph it has 11. what do you do? I'll add an extra column when I knot it, but what a pain to keep remembering to do that.

The pattern # you gave is not a cat, so I'm assuming you mean #83248 from your Loves. The dimensions for alphas and normal patterns are displayed differently. For alphas you want to look at the dimensions only... because the number of strings always includes an extra for the leading background color no matter how many additional colors are included in the pattern. It's confusing and misleading when you're not familiar with the site layout. So the dimensions are 11 x 25 meaning 11 base strings wide and 25 rows long. When in doubt, just go with the pattern diagram since that's what you'll be following. Some people prefer an even number of base strings, so they'll add or subtract one to make them even. Sometimes people attach the "odd" base string using the leading background color (with a lark's head knot if making a keychain or wall hanging) or include it inside the loop so that half becomes a base string and the other half is already attached to start knotting. Hope that makes sense! 😊 |

thanks! I'll be sure to count the strings of the alpha bracelets I make from now on. I'm sorry about giving the wrong graph number! I have several alphas that I'd like to make once I get my tension and knowledge a bit better.
