I've made a couple of alpha key chains before but I don't know if I'm doing it right. I've seen a lot of alpha key chains on here and they usually have white base strings on the keychain but the actual pattern has another color. When I attach the other color to my base string It leaves this little tail next to the start of the knot and I usually cut it off but it doesn't feel right to me and sometimes some of the threads will poke out if I don't cut it properly but I also don't want my keychain to have 1 random colored strand in the keychain with white base strings and I've seen others propels keychains and theirs looks neat and nothing is poking out. I'm wondering how you achieve this. Sorry if this is confusing I couldn't find a way to explain it.

@x_x I already do the straight edge technique. Sorry if my question came off as confusing. I'm just wondering how people make alpha keychains with different base strings without one of the background colors being added to the base strings.

I dont add mine to base string but it was a bracelet o.o I think you will need to weave the ends in ie combine with a base string and knot as usual to hide it

Oh. If it’s an even number I just tape it down. If it’s an odd number I usually just use whichever color I’ll need first which is usually the background.

Your base strings can be any colour you like. They don't have to be the same colour as any of your leading strings.I don't understand why this question is specific to keychains. |

@halokiwi I know I can have different base strings and a different leading string but when I attach a leading string to the base string it leaves a little tail at the beginning and the reason It's specific to keychains is because I see a lot of alpha key chains with white base strings and different leading strings and the keychain is very neat and there aren't any strings poking out of the starting knot I was wondering if there was a neater way without having to cut the tail off.

with my alphas my bases are always either black / white and then my leading string will have a tail like u mentioned, but when I add in a second colour i leave a long enough tail on that one as well so i can tie the two together in a knot, and then snip of as much of the remainderU can also cut the tail from the leading string p short, like a few mm, and then use some clear nail polish / glue to stick it down against the back of your alpha when you're done 😊 |

I think what @x_x suggested is good. When doing the straight edges technique (bf and fb knots at the edges) the strings at the edges point towards the inside. If you cut the strings very short, there is not much chance of them sticking out either. You can also glue the loose strings to the back or sew or glue a cover to the back. |

When I add a new colour to an alpha, I just cut off the string that hangs out the back as close to the bracelet/keyring as possible (normally as the very last thing I do) and they've never unravelled or anything
