So when I try to read patterns on this app most of them have dimensions. Or threads that come in at the side. How do you do them?

Those are the alpha patterns, so there are base strings and working strings. The base strings are knotted back and forth in rows over the base strings. You might want to look up a tutorial on YouTube.
