How do you know what size to make your loop?

I just eyeball it, if I’m making a tear drop loop I tend to make it shorted (around 10-12 Fb knots) but if I’m doing a triangle start I do it a little bit longer (around 15-20 depending on pattern size). While you’re working on it you can keep folding the loop in half to see if it’s the size that you want, but there is no set length
