how do you keep 1,2 patterns edges straight

I have been knotting a 1, 2 pattern and the edges keep going twisty and curving, any suggestions?

The bf and fb knots in the pattern should help keep it straight. Like with any other pattern, you could add the straight edges technique to help with the edges.
