Working on my #123953 pattern when i realized that the base strings are all too short. I might be able to finish the pattern, but i don't think i'd be able to tie a knot at the end with what i have. Is there a way to attach more string at the end?actually, while typing this i came up with a potential solution, so tell me if this sounds like it would work: instead of using the base strings to make a tie, i attach a new string onto every base string at the very end the same way you would start a new color. then i make the ending tie with those. would that work, our would they just fall off? |

I'm trying to visualize what you're saying, and I'm having some trouble. If you are saying what i think you are, and you would just tie more string onto the base strings, it might work, but it would probably look messy and the strings might slip off if you apply pressure. what i like to do it tape the old base string up, so it is no longer dangling with the rest of them, and tape a new string to the back of the bracelet, then use your leading string to knot onto it. however, with this technique, you wouldn't want to replace all of your base strings at once. hope this helps!

@asterism Attaching new string to existing base strings could work, as long as you don’t do so for all of them in the same row (that would introduce a major weak point in your bracelet. Try to spread them out. Avoid creating a straight line (horizontal or diagonal) of these stress points.

You can use something called the "magic knot" (search magic knot to join yarn, it also works for embroidery floss as well) where you essentially square knot the two strings you want to attach to one another. I have had to do this several times on various bracelets and it holds together pretty well. If you want an added layer of support add a bit of clear nail polish or glue to the knot as well.

@milbug thank you very much, that sounds like it should work! I'll try that, then.
