I think you can separate and twist them and then tie a small knot at the end, but it will be pretty hard. you might be able to add in strings like you would do if a base string broke and just do a few more rows, but other than that, I don't know how you would be able to

twist them, make the knot more on the middle, and when you tighten it, slide it down
