The length of the base strings you need depends on the length of the patternI recommend you take an alpha you have already knotted. In the finished alpha, you measure how many inches for example 10 rows are. You can then use this to calculate how many inches any amount of rows would be. To that you need to add whatever you need for loops, ties etc. |

normally, when i rarely make alphas i try to cut the base strings for the amount of rows. i feel i get the best results when i do for every 10 rows i use 1/2 a foot of string! ( for example : 20 rows = 1 foot). keep in mind this might not always be right and i barely make alphas, however, hoped this helped!!! 🙂

So if I make a 70 row alpha, It’s gonna be 6 inches about. So I measure 6 inches and cut more for the ties. If I do ties on both ends, i cut twice as much thread for it I need. For example, a 70 row alpha with 6 inch ties on each end, I will need to cut 18 inches of string. 10 rows for me is little less than an inch. If you doing a bracelet with a loop or something similar, you cut half at many strings you need, but make them twice the length you need. For example, a 12 string bracelet with 18 inch strings, I will cut 6 strings, and make them each 36 inches long because ima double them over. This is really long so if you need me to clear anything up, tag me. (:
