Do y’all get blisters/burns on your hands after knotting for more than an hour?

After a while, yes, especially if I knotted several days in a row, but I haven't had that problem recently and it does not happen to me after just one hour. I think it's a common problem.

Because my nails are fairly long I trim them to reduce blister and scrapes on my hands. But yes, I get blisters and peeling skin when knotting. The worse being my non-dominant hand thumb and dominant hand index finger..

Sadly yes. It does take its toll on your hands. I usually get dry skin from the threads as well 😔

Sometimes I do, I normally get odd bumps on my fingers from pulling the sting really tight.

Hmm. I've not had this problem, but my guess is that if you're getting blisters and sores on your fingers when knotting you're probably crooking your finger around the sting too tightly and running it through/across your finger. I use my fingers to make the < part of a fwd or > part of the bkw knot but once I have it around the strand I'm knotting over, I let go and pinch it to pull and finish the knot. Does that make sense?

Now if your problem is your hands, neck, or back are hurting after a while you probably need a more comfortable place to do your knotting. I generally knot sitting in a comfortable chair in my living room with my feet up on the ottoman. I put a pillow on my lap (I like the squishy microbead pillows), then put my clipboard on top of that. Use another pillow under if you need it up higher. But basically you don't want to be all hunched over your work space. Also on I find that having more relaxing music, an audiobook, or podcast playing helps to keep my body's tension relaxed. I know that you can get a little tensed if you're working on a particularly complex pattern but the more comfortable you make your surroundings the better off you'll feel. Hope that helps.

i also seem to be getting this rug burn (???) situation because it consistently rubbing against my fingers. i also get small cuts because of this. i tried putting a band aid over but it was useless. my hands are also SUPER dry from the strings. i have a small dent in my finger aswell ( might be from this idk )

it’s usually my fingers hurting! my fingers don’t get blisters or anything but they turn red so i just put a little bit of tape on the places that hurt. (the tape doesn’t really get in my way when i knot)

I just recently got into doing more complex bracelets and after knotting for 2+ days in a row my wrists started cramping and burning lol, it's similar to me to how my hands/wrists will cramp when knitting for a long time, but wayyy less severe.

As a knitter, hand/finger cramps and blisters come from doing a single repetitive motion over a long period, like the motion to knot. It can also come from tension and how you're holding your fingers, or how tight you're pulling with them.

It might sound silly for just making bracelets, but if you're ever getting pain you should take stretch breaks! Do hand stretches before, after, and occasionally during your knotting !! Protecting your hands is VERY important especially for crafters. Also the pain should lessen the more often you do something ! ❤️

My hands start to get calluses a few days after getting out of a bracelet slump. Then, they fall off, leaving delicate skin. (This hurts 😭) Then the callus re-forms and I'm good to go! This whole "process" usually takes about 2 weeks. Sometimes my fingers start to feel stiff and uncomfy. But that just happens when I've been knotting for hours.

i don’t really get blisters or anything like that but my fingers tend to get red and hurt so i put a little bit of tape on my fingers. it may seem like it gets in the way of knotting but not for me!

i definitely had cramping but i also make my bracelets untethered so i like hold the completed portion inbetween my first two fingers on my right hand, then use my thumb and other fingers to hold string out of the way while my left hand does the actual knotting. it’s not great for my hand but it def helps me work faster! (also yes it very much hurts if i knot a lot over the course of a few days)

Most of the times I get blisters and cuts if I've been knotting for a few days in a row and also because I tie my knots very tightly. Taking a break helps and making looser knots also helps. When I don't want to take a break I use a plaster. Doesn't feel amazing while knotting, but hurts less.
