If I’m making a wall hanging, roughly how long do my base strings need to be if the pattern is 36 rows long? Thanks |

@art_768376 I would do from fingertip to fingertip then to the middle of the chest.

Depends on if you are doing ties at the end or not. I usually make my base strings longer so I know that I will have enough. At least 6 inches for each base string plus some for ties if I want them.

I would say less than 30cm (keeping in mind that I mean 30cm before you fold the strings in half) as 36 rows isn't long

@onaipdance base strings in alphas only need to be the length of whatever you're knotting plus some extra for ties etc. From fingertip to fingertip and then to the middle of the chest is way too long for just 36 rows. I would estimate the length you have given to be more than 2m. The length I measured for 36 rows in one of my alphas is less than 7 cm. To be safe, I recommend 40 cm per base string (each string gets folded in half, so you only need to cut half the amount of base strings as seen in the pattern).
