This is my first time doing a teardrop loop start and I'm trying to follow the tutorial for Shaped Starts and Ends for Odd-Stringed Alphas and I'm having issues.. So the pattern I'm doing has 7 base strings. With the background string it makes it 8. I've already got my starting loop and I've done my shaping knots. The problem I'm having is with Step 4 the number of forward knots I need to make and how to make them. I've watched the video by Masha Knots but since I'm not doing the double triangle start like she does, I'm confused. Could someone clarify exactly what I need to do if possible?

You want to do a triangle start with 7 base strings, correct? MashaKnots definitely also has a video on triangle starts.

In row 1 you make one knot around all 7 strings: (7)
In row 2 you make 3 knots: (1)(5)(1) or (3)(1)(3)
In row 3 you make 5 knots: (1)(1)(3)(1)(1) or (2)(1)(1)(1)(2)
In row 4 you make 7 knots: (1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)(1)

The number in brackets is around how many strings you make the knots

If you really wanna make a tear drop loop I would cut the amount of string you need first minus the loop string I would use the background string as the loop string you also have a clean start and no weird string loose at the beginning of the bracelet

If you’re confused still, just add the background string into the loop 🙂 it will look cleaner, and you can do what you’re used to as far as the start
