How does everyone keep their bracelets so straight? And how do you make them thick enough to hold themselves up

For me it depends on the type of bracelet. If it’s an alpha I do I forwards backwards (or vice versa) knot on the sides. You have to keep it consistent when you do that though which should keep it fairly straight. With regular bracelets, I just apply the same amount of pressure/tightness of the knots throughout. Thickness for me normally depends on the brand of string. You might want a thicker string if you want the bracelet sturdier.

How tight you make the knots determines how stiff the bracelet is. If you pull the first half of the knot very tight before making the second half of the knot, the gaps between the knots are smaller, so the overall bracelet is stiffer. To make a bracelet straight a consistent knot tension is important. For alphas making the knots less tight is helpful. For normals you can pick whichever tightness you like. For both normals and alphas the straight edges technique can be useful. Normal patterns that have lots of just f or just b knots in one spot tend to curve in that direction. It can be helpful to adjust the pattern and tweak the knotting structure to a more balanced one if possible. In addition to that try to not pull the bracelet too much to either side while knotting. |
