@odd_ducky, I don't know where you're from, but in Canada I get my dowels from Dollarama, a dollar store that sells some craft supplies. I get two different sizes, the smaller ones, which are 3/16" x 12", which I use for smaller wall hangings (and ornaments), probably up to 25-ish strings; and 1/4" x 12", which I use for larger wall hangings. The smaller ones come 20 in a pack for $1.25, and the larger ones come 10 in a pack for $1.25 also. I actually checked amazon and they seem really expensive there. What I do is knot whatever I'm doing on the dowel, and I get my dad to saw it off when I'm done, then I use the rest of the dowel for another project. Hope this helps! |

You could also use wooden skewers and cut off the pointy side

I use single-use chopsticks! I use a knife to create a rivet around the spot I want to cut, and snap it in that place with my hands. Then I use sandpaper to make it smooth and it works 🙃
