Why do my alphas turn out different to the pattern?

Hi, when I make alphas, they turn out really stretched. What I mean is, if I have a circle on my patterns, then when I knot it it turns into an oval. Why is this?

This is a common issue. Ways you could fix this is - using bigger base strings or doubling the base strings - making the knots less tight (this generally also makes the alpha look better) |

Thank you for the tips. I am in the middle of an alpha with golf balls now and I am thinking about not doing my knots as tight to make the golf balls rounder. Will it look strange if I suddenly do this?

If your knots become looser, it will make the balls looks rounder. Tying them tighter will make the knots longer than wider and it will turn into an oval shape. You need to experiment a little with the tightness of the knots to see what looks best 😊
