I was at Walmart and saw a big roll of crochet thread that looked like it could be used for bracelets. But it was slightly thinner than embroidery thread. Just wondering if anyone has tried it and liked it??

@Camo, I have a few balls of crochet cotton I sometimes use for bracelets. I tried to switch over to crochet cotton a few years ago, because the balls they come in are so big. But I found out pretty fast that in my area, there aren't very many color choices (only 8-10 colours between Walmart and Michaels), and buying them online are much more expensive, so I went back to embroidery thread. In saying that, I am from a small area, and we don't have much in the way of craft stores. I had the "Aunt Lydia's" brand, size 10. In terms of functionality, I find they are good for normal bracelets, but not so good for alphas. For alphas, I found them to not be as flexible as regular embroidery floss, so once you did a knot it just stayed that shape, whereas regular embroidery floss you can sort of move it around and shape it more. Especially if you're trying to do the clean back technique, you'll see your threads between your knots because of this. I've seen that several people use size 3 crochet cotton as the base strings for all their alphas, which is a really smart idea! I will probably use up most of what crochet cotton I have doing that. 😂 Hope this helps! |

@Camo I use white and black crochet thread for base strings and in my normals. I’ll be quite honest I also use it in my alphas. I mainly just try to adjust the pressure of how I knot depending on the string. If you don’t mind taking extra time and patience to adjust your knots and tension it works almost as good as regular embroidery floss. However if you don’t want to spend the extra time or energy then only use them for base strings or not at all.
