Ending an alpha with a straight bottom?

I've been wanting to make and use friendship bracelets as bookmarks, so I've been trying to search how to secure the last row of background knots on an alpha pattern with little success. If the last background knot ends in a corner, how should I secure the string, assuming I want to cut all the base strings to achieve that straight bottom finish of a traditional bookmark? If there is no possible way to do that, how should I secure the background string if it's in the corner?

The way I secure my alphas is I do the twisted ties so my knotting string is included in those ties. I think @Margaron has a picture of an alpha bookmark she made so you can see how she did the strings! Another option is to do triangle ends for alphas (Masha knots on YouTube) so your knotting string would be included in a little tassel and not sticking out

I did try Masha Knots's method with the triangle ends and I can't really do them well so I'm not a big fan :// The start of the ends curves a lot since I just completed my first alpha recently and I suppose I need a lot more practice to get that right. I also checked out @Margaron 's pictures like you recommended, and I can't really find that bookmark you spoke of :') But I did see the way she ties off her corner background string in her alphas and that was useful, so thanks very much for the recommendation!

Everything is knotted so you don’t technically NEED to secure it unless your string is particularly slippery. My bookmark is my large ship pattern but if I remember correctly you can’t really see the ‘ties’ which is where I literally just cut the strings off an inch or so on either end of the pattern. To get a nice crisp starting line I would suggest knotting against tape.
