How do you start an alpha on a keyRING? Not key chain

You can make a regular loop and insert the keyring in it. That's what I usually do.You could potentially also try to do something like a shaped start that the keyring fits into. MashaKnots explains another technique in her video on double sided keychains but that only works for double sided keychains. |

If you have an even number of base strings you could do the lark’s head knot technique you would do on a D-ring. I used to do this but it would never be straight and it made my rows wonky. SO, instead I started doing a teardrop loop with the leading string and then put it around the key ring before finishing it. It’s a little awkward to knot at the beginning, Bc it means you won’t be knotting 100% flat, but after a few rows you’ll be able to lay it flat and then it hangs a lot better. It’s also a lot easier to take on and off the ring if need be than if you did lark’s heads.
