I have never done a wall hanging before but they look super cool and I would love to try one. When I looked “dowel” up on Amazon I got a ton of results. Any recommendations on a brand or specific dowel? I’m sure they can’t be too different from one another… but just in case I wanted to check 😂
And if you have any other advice or recommendations on how to make a wallhanging I am all ears! Thanks!

I got a pack of 50 6" long 3/16th wide dowels for like $6 on Amazon, the brand was Steso. They're good quality and also come a little thicker if you want.

lol i’ve noticed—i have 15cm/6in dowels—but if you do a smaller pattern on it, it looks kinda dorky lolll. i did a 30 string one and it looked very weird since the dowels stuck out super long. so depending on the wall hanging, a toothpick will also work fine lol.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to look at that brand. I also do want to start small so I’ll try to find thinner dowels 😂

Hi! If you’re looking to start with smaller wall hangings or possibly looking for a product that’s a lot easier to find, I really recommend kabob skewers! It’s kind of weird item to use but it works great, plus you can find it in most grocery stores too! What I recommend is to sand the sharper ends or snip them off to get a more ‘dowel’ like look, another great addition is that they’re thin enough to be able to cut with just scissors so you can cut it down to whatever size you might need. Hope this helps! Happy knotting! 💕

i bought my dowels that are about 12 inches long from michael's but you could find them at any local craft store probably. i only bought a pack of 15 because i don't make wallhangings too often but i just have my parents use a sharp kitchen knife to cut the ends of the dowel off. i usually try and put the strings to the far left side so that i only need to cut one side and then the extra can be used for another wall hanging.
